What's Bovey Tracey got to offer?

Bovey Tracey has an awful lot to offer. Though it is only a small town it is home to some popular tourist attractions, wide variety of shops (including estate agents and banks), accommodation (hotels guest houses, b&b), restaurants, pubs and of course, one of South Devon's longest established beauty salons, Beautytime Health and Beauty Clinic. There are also some fantastic places to walk and it is on the edge of Dartmoor which is a rambler's paradise.

Location wise Bovey Tracey is incredibly easy to get to. As it is based only a few minutes from the A38 Devon Expressway it takes only 25 minutes to reach from Exeter and less than 40 minutes from Plymouth. Once you reach Bovey Tracey you will not experience any delays as there are no traffic lights and parking is very easy and convenient.

Attractions, Things To Do and See.

Dartmoor National Park - Bovey Tracey is known as 'Gateway to the Moor' and is home to the HQ of the Dartmoor National Park Authority. Dartmoor is the largest and wildest area of open country in southern England, covering an area of 368 square miles. Stunning scenery and spectacular all year round, whatever the weather. It is a rambler's paradise!

Devon Guild of Craftsmen - based in a picturesqe old mill on the River Bovey, immediately next to the main car park.The Guild has exhibitions and displays of ceramics, textiles, jewellery, woodwork, etc. Entry is free, and there is a shop and restaurant with roof terrace. (www.crafts.org.uk)

House Of Marbles - "offers fun and games, history and museums, glass making, shops and restaurants." Also home to Teign Valley Glass factory. Free entry. Site of Bovey Tracey's last remaining bottle kilns. (www.houseofmarbles.com)

Cardew Pottery - "the U.K.'s largest ceramic playground attaction" where you can make your own ceramic masterpiece. Famous for its collection of teapots. Free entry (www.craftsatcardew.co.uk)

Bovey Heathfield - A far cry from the neighbouring industrial estate, Bovey Heath is a nature reserve run by the Devon Wildlife Trust. It was the scene of a battle between Royalists and Oliver Cromwell's Roundhead army in 1646 and then used for training American troops during World War II. Today it is a fascinating landscape dominated by heather and gorse with views up to Dartmoor. It is also home to a wide variety of insects, birds and reptiles. (www.devonwildlifetrust.org)

Becky Falls - beyond Bovey Tracey and on the edge of Manaton, this Dartmoor valley setting offers scenic walks, a variety of animals and family activities. (www.beckyfalls.co.uk)

Bovey Tracey Heritage Museum - situated in a lovely building which up until the 1960s was Bovey Tracey Train Station. The museum has references to much of Bovey Tracey's past history especially the local pottery industry. (www.devonmuseums.net)

Templar Way - In 1820 George Templar, to connect the granite quarries at Haytor and the Stover Canal at Teigngrace, built an 8-mile granite tramway. This was to transport granite down to the River Teign, and the coast. The present day Templar Way Trail follows much of the original route, from moor to sea.
