What Is Thread (Red) Vein Treatment?
Quite simply, it is the removal of broken facial capillaries such as spider veins, spider naevi, milia and facial veins using Electrolysis.
Why Do Broken Capillaries Occur?
Dilated capillaries, which appear as small red lines, are usually found on the the face (cheeks and nose area) and on the legs (inside of the knees and thigh area).
What Causes Them?
Thread veins are usually hereditary however can be aggravated by a number of factors such as too much sunbathing, dehydration and harmful soaps. In the case of leg veins, both pregnancy and excess weight are two major causes.
How Are Thread Veins Removed?
If you have ever experienced electrolysis then you will be familiar with the technique: a fine probe is placed just under the skin and by using an electrical current a small amount of heat is generated, cauterising the dilated capillary. This results in the capillary drying up and disappearing shortly after.
If you are having vein removal on your face it is usual for the treated area to become reddened and in some cases slightly swollen, however the skin heals very quickly. Occasionally the odd small scab, the size of a dot, may appear. This is not something to worry about however it is very important not to scratch the scabs off.
It is worth remembering that after the treatment you must not sunbathe or use a sunbed while your skin is going through the healing process. The therapist will give you more details on aftercare at the time of your treatment.
What Is The Success Rate?
Very good. This skin treatment completely removes the small blood spots / spider naevus that often occur under the eyes and in the case of facial capillaries they tend to disappear leaving the treated area cooler and paler. With larger blemishes the results are not quite as effective, however a definite improvement is evident.
